Today, members of the Oyo Global Forum, OGF, led by its chairman, Mr. Olorunpoto Rahaman Cephas, met with the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba (Dr) Lamidi Adeyemi, on the insecurity ravaging our dear town.
At the meeting were Mr. Tunde Suulola, Mrs. Iyabode Makinde, Prince Ayo Sanda, Prince Abioye Adeyemi and Mr. Sikiru Akinola. Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu was joined at the meeting with some top palace aides.
Opening the floor, OGF chairman briefed the monarch about the activities of the forum since inception. He listed the intervention of Soku herders’ crisis, bootcamp for Oyo indigenes, facilitation of Awe Isolation Centre, facilitation of employment opportunities among others as some of the things the forum has done.
The chairman said that though he knows that gang wars have halted development in town, he explained that the latest killing between boys from Iseke and Apaara communities of the town necessitated the visit. Recall that only recently, over 10 people were killed. He added that members of OGF, home and abroad, are not happy with the development. He told Kabiyesi that the visit became important following cries from people that Oyo has become a war-like zone.
He submitted by saying that the solution lies with the foremost traditional ruler as he has the needed connection to quench the crisis. This was after he had suggested the use of men of the O’dua Peoples Congress, OPC, to Kabiyesi to help with the onslaught against the hoodlums.
Archbishop Ladigbolu who spoke after told Kabiyesi that he was at the meeting because members of the OGF are people of impeccable characters. Like the chairman, he also listed what the forum has achieved, saying that members of the group are pro-Oyo. He added that it was just like he did in 1959 when he committed himself fully to the development of our dear town. He said he was aware of efforts by Kabiyesi to get rid of bad elements in the society.
Oba Adeyemi who spoke afterward appreciated members of OGF for the visit, saying it could not have come at a better time. He said he was keen to receive the delegation as he had heard a lot about the activities of the forum. He added with him, Oyo Metropolitan and OGF, the miscreants will leave the town.
He listed some of the things he has done to prevent further distance in the town especially since hoodlums took over the #EndSARS protest across the country. He revealed that he has had to move from community to the other, advising leaders on the danger of causing troubles and damaging properties.
Kabiyesi also revealed that he got information that three police stations in the town were about to be set ablaze, he mobilized people against the action. He revealed that those who burgled the office of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, have started returning looted items to Atiba divisional police headquarters.
He said he would continue to invite OGF to meetings that are related to development of the town.
Mr. Suulola thanked the monarch on behalf of OGF.
